    I have read that Sony only works with their given software & books aren’t discounted too much from the regular price.
    The Kindle has an internet connection to Amazon & Wikipedia. The books can be around $10 for a best seller. It appears to me to be the better option. Sony has 20,000 titles available & Amazon has 90,000.
    That said, I think they will come down significantly in price in a year or two & neither support library books from e-libraries right now.
    I’m waiting for the 2nd Gen. Right now Kindle wins out, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony comes up with a better device later. Neither device has a backlight though, which I’m sure is annoying.
    Edit: Just saw this and wanted to pass it along. USA Today did a comparison article. http://www.usatoday.com/tech/columnist/e…

    Kindle wins. The Kindle has a wireless access for updates. The Sony uses USB for updates.
    Kindle …
    Display: 6″ diagonal E-Ink® electronic paper display,
    600 x 800 pixel resolution at 167 ppi,
    4-level gray scale
    Size (in inches): 7.5″ x 5.3″ x 0.7″
    Weight: 10.3 ounces
    Sony …
    * E-Ink® “Electronic Paper”
    Screen Size
    * Approx. 6″ Measured Diagonally
    Resolution
    * Approx. 170 Pixels Per Inch
    Gray Scale
    * 4-Level Grey Scale
    Wireless updates make the Kindle seamless to use.

    Sony looks nicer and has a backlight. However, it lacks wireless connectivity. You need a PC to download new books.
    Kindle has it’s own wireless network, but that comes with a price. Even if they were giving Kindles for free, you’d still be paying $30 a month just for the wireless service.
