look on this and see which you prefer:

Amazon’s Kindle 2 has undergone a liposuction and is slimmer, sleeker and a has better profile than its predecessor. The new Kindle also sports a 25 percent longer battery life, says Amazon, and has a better keyboard making it easier to flip pages.

Even as Kindle 2 tries to convert some of the traditional book buyers, the device’s biggest competition will come from the Sony e-book Reader. Other competitors such as Plastic Logic which is also making an e-book reader are yet to launch their product.

Sony introduced its e-book Reader in 2006. The device uses the same E-ink electronic paper display as the Kindle. But it has more versions including a touchscreen and non-touchscreen one available and has so far has been appreciated for its better design.

Now that Kindle 2 has gone through a redesign it is time to take a look at how it stacks up against the latest Sony Reader PRS-700BC. The biggest difference between the two e-book readers is the availability or the lack of wireless connectivity.

Kindle 2 doesn’t have Wi-Fi but uses Sprint’s EVDO wireless data network to search and download books. Sony Reader users have to via the USB cable to their computer. After a one-time download of the e-book software they can browse the online store using their Internet connected PC and download titles to the Reader. It’s a cumbersome process and its the one area where the Kindle truly rules.

check out this picture to see a comparison on prosesses etc.

I’ve the Kindle 2 and I’ll choose it over Sony Reader. I suggest the Kindle because it has free wireless and text-to-speech function. There are more and cheaper ebooks you can find available for the Kindle too. And the Sony Reader doesn’t have wireless, the Kindle has.

There are some good comparison between them here:

If you’re a bit down on money, go with the Sony Reader, of course. First, let us take a look at Amazon’s Kindle 2. The Kindle 2 is a tablet shaped ebook reader.

KINDLE ~Black and White. The Kindle 2 also has a full keyboard, making typing and searching for books easy. Memory of 2 gigabytes. It has Wifi. This feature also allows you to do some browsing with limited websites. Available in white.

SONY READER~ comes with 512 kb of internal capacity, combined with being expandable with Sony memory sticks. Multi-colored. The Sony Reader is available in silver, black and red.

I think the Sony Reader would be more worth the money. I would buy it if I were you. ;)

    *Personally, I prefer real books.

I have the Kindle and I purchased it over the other ereaders because it had the best selection of books for the lowest prices. Also the online reviews said that it was the best. I also liked that you could download books anywhere without having to find a WIFI hotspot or pay monthly fees. It was also great to be able to download PDF documents to it as well. I also like being able to listen to music on my kindle while reading rather than needing a radio or ipod. Finally I appreciate the book samples, so I can read a few chapters into the book and decide if it is worth purchasing or not.

I would prefer Kindle. 3G wireless and global coverage, I personally travel a lot and really worthy for me. You can have any newspaper at any place and also they are cheaper. The best selling value for the Kindle is convenience for the travel, it’s pretty handy and easy to carry anywhere with you. The other important thing matters to me are speedy for downloading books and reading material. Also it allow around average size of 1500 books and reading material to store, so is a significant amount of storage space to bring with you. In one line I can say “you are carrying your book shelf with you”.
Also one of the other feature of Kindle is it’s E-INK screen technology that don’t glare in any light so no strain to eyes and you can read for hours.

Also you save a lot in compare to the actual books, the books on kindle are really cheaper so I have saved a lot till now. Also there are plenty of books on kindle to choose. Also it has so good features such as Text-To-Speech which is really useful when you get bored or doing some other activity.

Get more info about eReaders like Amazon Kindle 2, Barnes and Noble Nook and Apple iPad @ http://7thingsdigital.com/?p=24

MEMORY: The memory for the iPad is 16-64 GB. Amazon Kindle boasts 2 GB and the Nook has 2 GB of memory, but is expandalbe. The Kindle DX has 4 GB of memory.

SCREEN: The iPad has a touchscreen LCD. The other readers use eInk, which some argue is easier on the eyes.

COLOR: The iPad is the only eReader with color. The Kindle and Nook has 16 shades of gray.

INTERNET CONNECTIONS: The iPad uses WiFi and 3G connections. The 3G connection is $14.99 to $30 per month. The Amazon Kindle and Kindle DX use free 3G connections for downloads and the Barnes & Noble Nook uses both 3G and WiFi – a definite plus if you are somewhere with a WiFi connection and no 3G network available.

SUPPORTED eBOOK FORMATS: The iPad allows users to read Kindle books via a Kindle App, PDF files, ePub. The Kindle reads Kindle, PDF, MOBI, and the Nook can read eReader, ePub, PDF, and PDB formats. More formats may become available as the companies compete for the eReader market.

I’ll say the Kindle 2 instead of Sony Reader. Read here to know more:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR266PE1Q47CYNH%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ASIN%3DB00154JDAI%26nodeID%3D%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Fpr%255Fcmt&tag=more_info-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

I own the Kindle 2 and I like it very much. It is better than Sony Reader because Amazon provide good content support, and the number of books available in Kindle format is kept on increasing (right now there are 300,000 Kindle books). Sony Reader, however, many users complain that it is difficult to find suitable books, and books on it are more expensive than the Kindle. Other benefits of the Kindle over Sony Reader include the free wireless internet access, and the text-to-speech function.

If you need to read PDF with charts and graphics, you may want to go for the Kindle DX. Read this review and you should be able to decide which one to get:

    Hope this helps.

    I recommend the Kindle.

Read this article, it is written by a person who tried a number of ebook readers, including Amazon Kindle and Sony Reader, and is also the best review on the Kindle that I’ve ever read (note that the Kindle 2 now supports PDF natively):

Among the ebook readers, the Amazon Kindle is the best I’ll say. I recommend this article, it mentioned Amazon Kindle, Sony Reader, and other ebook readers by the end of the review:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR2V54YX2DD18S2%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Frdp%255Fperm&tag=searchresult-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

    Guess it’ll help you decide.
