In addition to the advantages mentioned by the other posters, the Kindle has on more major one – the selection available. Amazon currently offers about 185,000 titles in Kindle format, and they’re adding more all the time. The last time I checked, the Sony only had about 20,000 titles available. With that much selection available, you can pretty much guarantee always having something to read that you will enjoy.
The main difference is that the Kindle uses the "Whispernet" system by Sprint. This means that you do not have to download books via your computer (usb cord) or in the presence of a wifi connection.
Kindle connects to the Amazon kindle store the same way that a cell phone receives service..just mysterically thru the air (haha).
Kindle also has a basic web browser. That means that you can be somewhere where there is no wifi connection…and still be able to do basic web searches (like check your email, etc)
There are so many advantages over the Sony reader. Rest assured, you will LOVE LOVE LOVE the Kindle.
